The Spine
Spinal disorders (back problems) are ubiquitous. The annual cost of working hours lost, secondary diseases, etc., amounts to some 1012 million euros. The main functional demands made on our spine are stability and load-bearing capacity on the one hand, and flexibility (in terms of adaptation to our daily needs) on the other hand. Therefore, it is no wonder that especially the intervertebral cartilage or disk (IVD) with its buffer function tends to be the first chain link adversely affected by wearing processes, which can lead to a series of manifold troubles.
Development of a disk prolapse ("slipped disk")

An exact diagnosis is an important prerequisite for an effective as well as patient-friendly (low-strain) therapy. Based on an intensive diagnostic conversation with the patient, this requires a thorough, targeted clinical examination in connection with additional diagnostic methods, including the use of advanced techniques such as MRI.
The challenge consists in finding an optimal therapy for a given set of symptoms. We have achieved excellent results with a specific minimally invasive intervention, the so-called epidural catheter developed by Prof. Racz. This technique not only spares patients the strain of open surgery, but allows them to return faster to a normal life.
